Silver Trees

£350.00

39 inches wide x 39inches long
100cm x 100cm

This metre square quilt was made to satisfy a challenge with our exhibiting group Thr3fold. It was inspired by a fabulous sunset witnessed during drive one evening from high in the hills above Vancouver to downtown. The silver trees of the title were a wonderful feature in the garden of our fellow exhibitor Catherine Nicholls. Lit from below, the white trunks gleamed theatrically out of the dark night! I used some marbled fabrics discovered at the Quilt Museum in La Conner together with my hand dyes. The whole thing is free motion machine quilted and I accentuated the effects of the feather shaped motifs within the quilting with metallic copper fabric paint. The trees were stencilled and only outlined with stitch, leaving them unquilted to raise them from the surface in relation to the densely quilted background.
