This quilt was exhibited at Quilt 2001 as part of the Knitting and Stitching Show and toured from London to Harrogate and Dublin and was commended by the judges. My quilt 'Wild Tulip' owes some of it's inspiration to the textile design 'Tulip and Lattice' by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and some to the paintings and architecture of Friedrich Hundertwasser. I admire the way they were both able to combine formal grid based structures with more fluid and curvaceous elements of design. I have attempted to integrate the same contradictions within this piece. I used hand painting, printing, with stitch and bead embellishments before adding a final layer of pastel. |
