7923-04 Patchwork and Quilting Diploma Module 6
In Module 6 students complete their first Assessment item, the Miniature Quilt. All quilts have to conform to a maximum size limit of 12", 30cms. Work also involves an investigation into fabric manipulation, discharge dyeing and the rusting of fabric.
Above: Maureen's miniature quilt inspired by an oyster shell.
Right: some examples of the back up work and samples that accompanied the miniature quilt.
Left: Some of Maureen's rust dyed fabrics.

Left: A page from Catherine's sketchbook showing the layering of multiple pages cut to different sizes.

Left, detail above: Catherine's first Assessment piece, her miniature quilt. Inspired by stained glass windows it features hexagon piecing combined with bias strip applique.
Right: Jean's miniature quilt assessment. Jean has cleverly combined techniques including printing and piecing to create her complex design on such a small scale. Free machine quilting completes the piece which features many of Jean's own hand dyed fabrics.

Below: Anna's miniature quilt assessment inspired by mathematical sequences and progressions. The design was painted onto fusible interfacing and then printed onto felt before being hand quilted.

Above and left: Some of Jean's experiments with creating colour and surface design on fabric using discharge technique and rusting.
We hope you have enjoyed browsing through the first examples of our students work for Module 6 of this exciting new online course. Additional images will be added as soon as have them! Why not take a look at what the students have produced for Module 7?
