7923-04 Patchwork and Quilting Diploma Module 4
In Module 4 students continue their personal research theme together with an exploration of mathematical sequences and progressions as a means of developing ideas for design.
Left and above: Pages from Catherine's sketchbooks showing her development work with the theme of 'angels' and explorations with Fibonacci.

Above and right: some of Maureen's work with Fibonacci number sequences to generate spirals.
Above: Jean's paper development work and a sample from her portfolio that explores many of the social and political associations of the Berlin wall.
Above and below: Details of pages from Anna's sketchbooks exploring her Research theme.
Right and below: Catherine continues to research the theme of angels portrayed in stained glass, here she is concentrating on the representation of the feather as a motif.
Left: Anna became really fascinated with the potential of designs generated from mathematical sequences and progressions. Her samples evolved into this exciting quilt titled 'Golden Mean meets Fibonacci'. The quilt incorporates metal shim and has 3D elements.
Above, left and right: More of Anna's work with maths. This time using paper weaving with painted papers.
Above and detail right: Catherine's work into transfer printing led to this small quilt. The beautiful feathers have been printed using photo transfer techniques. Small snippets of text appropriate to her theme are also combined in addition with lots of free machine quilting.

Left: Jean maintains the atmosphere and colour palette established by her design work in these samples of shadow applique.

We hope you have enjoyed browsing through the first examples of our students work for Module 4 of this exciting new online course. Additional images will be added as soon as have them! Why not take a look at what the students have produced for Module 5?
