I trained originally as a painter and although I have always sewn, only came to textiles as a means of artistic expression, by a circuitous route. I gained my City & Guilds certificates in
7900 Parts 1 and 2, achieving the Medal of Excellence in 1995. I was made a Licentiate of City & Guilds in 1996 and have worked as their National Advisor for Patchwork and Quilting since 1997. I taught City & Guilds Patchwork and Quilting for ten years in the UK and since 1999 in the USA. In 2001 my first book, 'Color Moves' was published by That Patchwork Place in the USA and I also launched the first entirely Online City & Guilds patchwork course in March that year with technical web expertise from daughter Laura. I gained a City & Guilds certificate in Papercraft in 2000 and have discovered that I enjoy working with mixed media,
combining hand made paper with cloth and embellishments in small, decorative projects.
Quiltmaking continues to be an important part of my life and I am so pleased that with the wealth of products available today, I can achieve the painted effects on fabric that I have so long loved on paper.
