Welcome to the Sketchbooks section of the Gallery. Sketchbooks and drawing are a vital stage in my working progress. Often the books provide the place to experiment and develop ideas that become textiles, sometimes they are the end in themselves. The pages below are drawings inspired by hedgerows. The local fields and lanes are bordered by tall hawthorn and blackthorn hedges. I'm particularly drawn to them in the winter months when the leaves are gone and all that remains is a network of branches and thorns.
