Above: Recent trips to Washington State in North America have provided new inspiration from amazing rock formations to beautiful landscapes.
Architecture is a constant source of inspiration. The windows here are either from ancient Stokesay Castle in Shropshire, UK or various locations in Barcelona, Spain.

The simple geometric shapes and grids of the windows above appeal to the patchworker in me and form a fascinating comparison with the wonderfully organic curves that Gaudi employed in his buildings.

These brought us almost to tears during a recent trip to Barcelona when it was so exciting to see the actual windows, roofs, facades and mosaics rather than just pictures of them in books!
Below: Glimpses of landscape seen through broken glass and rusting metal bars inspired 'Rust Never Sleeps'. The title is a Neil Young lyric. The dark, triangular shapes have been painted onto the quilt with acrylic paint after the machine quilting was complete. Identifying these negative spaces in the quilting was an opportunity toprovide an interpretation of the broken panes of spiky glass.

Ever since I was a little girl I've had dreams where I could fly. I have a real fascination for birds, feathers and particularly, angels.The images below show some of my watercolour sketches of feathers and how I manipulated them in Paint Shop Pro to create repeat patterns. Some of my feathery free machine quilting from 'Seven for a Secret' is shown below.

Using the mosaic tool from Paint Shop Pro in combination with a painting of feathers produced this colour study on the left. A simple way of arriving at a pleasing colour scheme for a quilt design!
