'Grey Poppies'

This wallhanging began as a piece of handpainted fabric. The poppy heads were drawn freehand using fabric markers. Additional elements of screen printing and areas of text were included. The surface was then densely stitched both by hand and machine.

I was inspired to make this piece by a piano in the Arts and Crafts room at Cheltenham Museum and Art Gallery. Made by Ashby, the piano is decorated with beautiful hand painted poppies and lines of verse.
