Painting and piecing – what’s new?

I promised to show how the poppy work is progressing in my sketchbook this week.

As you can see, I’ve added a couple of watercolour blooms to sit alongside the collaged prints of my original photographs.

I’ve also had great fun painting some of the seedheads that have appeared as soon as the blooms fade. I’m not going to go into too much detail about technique because I’ve had a few emails asking for a video demonstration of my way of watercolour painting.  I’ll keep the details of how I approach the delicate subject of flowers for a soon to be aired DMTV video!

In the meantime, I have to have something on the go while I’m waiting for paint to dry so here’s the latest patchwork project. I’ve sorted through my fabric bins to discover as many blues as I can find.

I’m going back to an old favourite design – Rail Fence. It’s a wonderful way to use up all kinds of bits and pieces and a design you can play around with to create lovely and different quilt arrangements. I shall make many, many little four inch blocks before I decide how I’ll join them for best effect. No doubt I’ll let you see how that goes too!

Thanks for visiting today.
