Student Requirements
'The Artist's Book'
One day workshop
Students will customise a shop-bought sketchbook using a variety of techniques
to produce a unique book to work into at a later date.
Students should bring with them:
A sketchbook, either spiral or stitched/glued binding, at least A5 no larger than A3.
Cutting mat and knife.
Paintbrushes, bring a range if you already have them, if not then a 1" paintbrush will do.
PVA glue.
Glue brush or spreader.
Tissue paper, bring a piece that is at least twice the size of your sketchbook in a colour of your choice.
Basic sewing kit.
Assortment of threads.
Soft pastels or charcoal.*
Oil pastels or Markal paintstiks.*
Hairspray.
Treasure Gold/Goldfingering/Metallic shoe polish.*
Assortment of loose papers. This might include: brown paper, large used envelopes, watercolour paper, handpainted papers, handmade papers.
This workshop is most succesful when students bring with them some existing design work to develop in the sketchbook. This could include photographs, drawings, samples, painted papers, etc.
* Starred items: You won't need much of these items during the workshop. If you don't already have them you may like to get together with a friend and purchase a small selection to share. You will only need a couple of colours of pastels so choose ones that will coordinate with your papers/design ideas/theme, etc.
