At the conclusion of our Online 7802/7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

Mabel Reedijk-Pullen

Mabel's final assessment quilt was a wall hanging which took it's inspiration from a variety of sources including a trip to Cuba and her local surroundings. Techniques include piecing and applique together with machine quilting.
Mabel made small 3D butterflies to add movement and embellish the quilt surface (left).

Left: Mabel's first assessment quilt had quite a different feel. Interwoven strips were then complemented with applique giraffes.

Right: The storyboard for Mabel's first assessment piece captures the mood and the colour palette of the quilt.

Above left and right: A lovely sample of shadow applique and a detail showing one of the dragonflies close up.
Above: Printing on paper using hand made print blocks. The lines could suggest quilting patterns.

Above left, left and above: Mabel worked from a photographic source to work this small quilt using English paper piecing which was then hand quilted. We love Mabel's attention to detail demonstrated on the left where she has continued a section of the landscape through the border and out into the binding.

Above: A sample incorporating both paper pieced hexagons and the same shape worked using shadow applique. The sample was planned carefully beforehand in her sketchbook, right.

Above: This stunning wedding dress incorporated some fabric folding techniques from the course.
