At the conclusion of our Online 7802/7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

Gina Wilson

Gina's final assessment was a lap quilt designed to sit on the back of her sofa. Worked in hand dyed fabrics the design is machine pieced and quilted.
An exercise in distorting patchwork blocks created the new block that is repeated for the quilt. Painterly use of colour contributes to success of the whole design.

Above: Angular quilting with a variegated thread adds spark to the surface.

Left: The backing for the quilt was carefully considered and a length of cloth dyed specifically to coordinate.

Right: Gina's first assessment piece was inspired by a view of Swansea bridge through an arched window, left.

Right: The bridge was stencilled using Markal and additional details were added with stitch.

Above: Exercises in distorting the geometry of patchwork blocks, one of which led to the design for the final quilt.
Below: A simple checkerboard is enhanced with hand quilting.

Right: This spectacular photo of sand dunes was the inspiration for the stencilled landscape, left.

Worked in Markal on hand dyed fabrics it captures the scene perfectly.
