Freddie Farnham

Freddie's final assessment item was this free standing display book inspired by French architecture, particularly stone buildings around a courtyard. The book's zigzag format allows for some of the pages to open from different sides reflecting the idea of an enclosed space.
Above: The back cover of the book uses collage to suggest the distressed surface of an old building.
Right: Pattern and colour also featured as can be seen on this page using collage and soft pastels.
Left: This lovely watercolour captures the delicate colour of the arched stonework.
Left: One of Freddie's photos that inspired final work. Above: A studded door was the source for this page!
Left: Freddie's first assessment book was inspired by landscape.
Below: The pattern and shapes within a silk painting were used in this page.
Above left and left: Pages from the book - working with tree forms.

Below: Leaves were also a great source of shape, colour and pattern.
Left: Delicate sprayed colour was applied to create interest to the background on this page.
Right and below: Freddie developed some very exciting work combining her drawing and painting skills with digital images.
Below: Freddie continued her graphic style in her studies of geraniums.
Black and white is used effectively here in the form of rubbings and charcoal drawings.
The course introduce a variety of media and techniques including exercises that explore composition.
Sometimes a variety of techniques are combined as a series of layers.
Below, considering the quality of edges lead to these lovely overlays of pierced and cut pages.
Left, lines and shapes become the focus of attention when lovely painted papers are used in cutting and folding techniques.
Freddie selected a Kingfisher to produce this colour observation exercise.
Above, close observation is needed to record a subject accurately. Left, hand painted papers are perfect materials for collage exercises.
