At the conclusion of our Online 7802/7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

Cynthia Darlington

Cynthia's quilt Four Corners is inspired by her love of New Mexico. She's beautifully combined the colours of the landscape, traditional symbols and conventional patchwork designs.

Above: A detail of one corner of the quilt showing the reverse applique motif and the machine quilting.

Above and left: Pages from Cynthia's extensive design work that was produced before embarking on the final design. Photographs and drawings provide a wealth of information that could easily be the inspiration for future quilts.

Right: Cynthia's first assessment quilt was a wallhanging. Hand dyed and painted fabrics with applique and free machine quilting.

Left: A detail showing the dense free machine quilting, subtle use of satin stitch and beaded embellishments.

Above and right: Some examples of Cynthia's beautiful preparatory work for this quilt.

Above and left: A landscape was studied as the source for a set of work which developed into this sample of paper piecing.

Left and right: Cynthia has produced a whole set of work using the gingko leaf motif.

Spraying, stencilling and applique are combined with delicate machine stitching.

Leaves provide the source for another set of work. Here bonded and reverse applique techniques have been used.
