At the conclusion of our Online 7802/7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

Sheila Donnachie
Inspired by her memories of living in Curacao, Sheila's final assessment quilt is an appliqué wall hanging which features the native flora and fauna. We think it will be a wonderful lasting souvenir of her time there.

The quilt incorporates machine appliqué techniques, quilting, and photo transfer. Below, the exotic animals and birds are worked in broderie perse.

Above: Sheila's first assessment piece was this exciting 3D cushion worked primarily in patchwork techniques.

 

 

Above and right: Each facet of the cushion featured the use of a different technique varying from log cabin patchwork, to folded inserts. Decorative stitching and beads completed the piece.


Left and Above: Living in Curacao for the majority of this course and surrounded by palm trees, Sheila decided to use the palm tree as a recurrent motif in her work inspired by three contemporary quilters. Her are her tree samples in the style of Sheena Norquay, Anja Townrow and Cynthia Morgan.


Left and Above: Sheila demonstrates her skill with both free machine quilting and hand quilting.

The checkerboard piecing from earlier in the course is beautifully completed with hand quilted circles.

 

Mitred triangles and prairie points feature in these final images. Worked in paper, top left, they make an interesting collage. Above and left, the prairie point inserts add the perfect finishing touch to these gorgeous gift bags.
