At the conclusion of our Online 7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

Linda Riesterer
For her final assessment quilt Linda was torn between two colour schemes so she decided to make both! Inspired by falling leaves the two quilts are similar in design but have very a very different feel because of the colour palettes used. The backgrounds are pieced and the leaves appliqued (right) and quilted (below).
Right: Close up showing the applique leaves and dense machine quilting.
Left: A close up detail showing the free motion quilting.

Left: Linda carefully planned the colour placement for the patchwork to create areas of lightness of tone.
Left: Linda's first assessment piece was this applique wallhanging.

Right: Just one of the inspirational photos that Linda worked from.
Left: A close up showing the applique and hand quilting. Machine stitch was added for shading in the centre of each flower.

Right: Part of the design work for the quilt.
Right: The hummingbird is very detailed!
Left: Stencilling with fabric pastels. The blocks are sashed ready for quilting.
Right: Paper cutting and folding to create dimension.
Left: Blooming in fabric.
Left: One of Linda's beautiful quilting samples. This one is inspired by Amish quilting.

Right: American block patchwork.
Left: Designing with grids to create distorted block patterns.

Right: Shadow applique with hexagons.

Left: More of Linda's extensive hand quilting samples. These are inspired by Welsh (far left) and Provencal (left) quilting styles.

Above: Stencilling using a splatter technique through a leaf shaped mask.

Right: Further stencilling, this time with a horse motif.
Left: Paper pieced hexagons. The small scale of the shapes in this piece allows a very contemporary and painterly use of colour.

Right: Adding mitred triangles to create a shaped border.
Left: Machine quilting.

Right: Paper pieced landscape inspired by a personal choice of image.
