At the conclusion of our Online 7802/7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

Kay Barrass

Kay's final assessment piece is this beautiful quilt which was inspired by the art nouveau tiles around a fireplace.

Right: A pieced border stylishly completes the quilt.

Right: A photo of the original design source which inspired the whole piece.

Left: Kay's first assessment piece was this wall quilt titled Window on a Garden. The painterly effect is achieved by the small scale piecing of the hexagons worked in beautiful hand dyed fabrics.

Below left: The storyboard of initial ideas that led to the development of the quilt.

Below: Overlays of net added to the delicacy of the piece which was machine quilted to reflect the floral inspiration.

Left: A stencilled Markal landscape hand quilted.

Below: Kay intensely hand quilted this sample of pieced irregular hexagons.
Above left: We love the clever use of prairie points in this sample.
Pretty geraniums provided the starting point for this sample of pieced hexagons. The tiny scale has allowed Kay plenty of opportunity to vary the placement of the colours for a painterly result.
Kay has challenged preconceived notions about hexagons - this time using them in shadow appliqué.
Left: Stencilling techniques and prairie points are used in this sample.
Right: Gorgeous fabrics add luminosity to this curved prairie point edging.
