Jan Main
Jan's final assessment piece was this impressive quilt designed for a bed. Inspired by Roman mosaics and ancient pottery designs the quilt is worked in applique.
Left: Details of the quilt. The mosaic areas are made by bonding down individual tesserai that were then free motion quilted to firmly anchor them in place.
A Greek Key style inner border was pieced.

Left: A further detail showing the quilting on the upper section of the quilt that features dolphin motifs.
Above: Part of Jan's design work for her first assessment piece, a wall hanging.
Left: The completed wall hanging. The background was pieced to create a landscape. Embellishments were then added with applique.

Far left: Cut and folded chevrons worked in fabric. The use of a fabric that shades through a rainbow of colours makes it so exciting!

Left: Stencilling on fabric with Markal paintstiks - perfect for quilting later!

Below: Prints used in bonded applique were combined to create a cushion using complementary colours.
