Left and right: Details showing the quilt which uses free rotary cutting and machine piecing. The clever use of machine quilting in the background areas leaves the unquilted tree trunks and branches looking raised from the surface. |
Left: Ceci's initial storyboard of ideas that set the mood for this quilt. |
Right: The final design was resolved using a computer paint program to evaluate the colour placement and gave a good indication of how the completed quilt would look. |
Left: Ceci's first assessment piece was this wall hanging designed to capture the essence of the beachfront view that would be seen through nearby windows. The swirling shapes reflect the motion of the wind and water, while the colours are inspired again by the ocean together with the silvery surface of driftwood. |

| Above: The quilt was made in four sections that were joined by dense machine stitching leaving small holes reminiscent of the decay and erosion of surfaces often found in coastal areas. Ceci worked from her storyboard (left) and created a full scale paper pattern (above left). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Right: A sample of blooming and slashing from Ceci's portfolio of samples. |
Left: Stencilling on fabric with hand quilting. Below: Applique samples using counterchange of tone. |
Above: Ceci explored cutting and folding in painted papers before developing ideas in her sketchbook (above right) and then producing her favourite version as a small wall quilt (right). |
| Above: The block Sister's Choice was the subject of this experiment. On the left the regular version, on the right the block has been skewed to create a more dynamic alternative. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Above: Ceci's excellent machine quilting skills were demonstrated in these portfolio samples. The quilted fabrics then received a further layer of colour using fabric pastels (above right and right).
