Perfectly coordinating with the DesignWorks fabric range, Laura's hand dyed threads are so verstaile. Single strand 100% cotton mercerised thread in 40wt is perfect for quilting and embroidery by hand or machine. Presented in packs of coordinating skeins, simply untwist and cut for hand sewing, or wind onto an empty bobbin or spool for machine sewing. Hand dyeing is a process that blends science with art. Laura uses a low water immersion technique which allows her creative freedom to blend multiple colours within a single fabric achieving exciting and unusual combinations. No two pieces are ever identical, each one having the unique individuality of a hand painted wash.

Conveying ideas of colour can be difficult so DesignWorks threads are organised into Themes. We find that this is much more user friendly than describing something as 'purpley-blue' etc.!

The inherent nature of hand dyeing and the reason we all love it so much is the randomness and unpredictability of the result. We aim to describe the colours as accurately as possible but each thread within a theme will not necessarily contain all of the colours covered by that description. If the proportion of the colours is crucial, for example you may be buying a thread to complete an existing project, please specify on your order form or Special Instructions box at the 'Checkout'. For example: Anemone - mostly purple, or Citrus - mostly lemon, etc.

The threads are presented in packs containing five hand-wound skeins (approx 20m each).
