Just when you thought you'd already got enough...

DesignWorks fabrics are expertly hand dyed by Laura using Procion MX fibre reactive dyes. The fabric is a high quality mercerised cotton which is ideal for a variety of applications - we love to use them for piecing, applique, quilting and dressmaking.

Hand dyeing is a process that blends science with art. Laura uses a low water immersion technique which allows her creative freedom to blend multiple colours within a single fabric achieving exciting and unusual combinations. No two pieces are ever identical, each one having the unique individuality of a hand painted wash.

Conveying ideas of colour can be difficult so DesignWorks fabrics are organised into Themes. We find that this is much more user friendly than describing something as 'purpley-blue' etc.!

While the Themes encompass a wide range of gorgeous colour schemes, you may well be planning something special. Or maybe you're planning something big and need larger amounts. If so, just email Laura to chat about your individual requirements.

The inherent nature of hand dyeing and the reason we all love it so much is the randomness and unpredictability of the result. We aim to describe the colours as accurately as possible but each fabric within a theme will not necessarily contain all of the colours covered by that

The fabrics are presented in packs containing three fat quarters (approx 20" square each) coordinated with three spools of Madeira rayon machine thread (200m spools).

	Thunderstorm Threatening skies of slate grey, charcoal, purple and a flash of blue. One of our all time favourites - the crystalline marks that appear in the dyeing process are all the more apparent on these darker shades.
